A milestone debut in Tokyo
The 50th Japan Hobby Show 2026 in Tokyo showcasing modern sewing and quilting tools
The 50th Japan Hobby Show 2026 was held from May 8 to 10 at Tokyo Big Sight’s East Exhibition Hall 7 under the anniversary theme “Create, Continue, Connect.” For Kearing, joining this landmark edition was more than a first appearance at a major Japanese craft event. It was a chance to meet one of the world’s most detail-oriented maker communities face to face, listen closely, and let visitors experience Kearing tools in the hand.
At the booth, visitors explored tools for sewing, quilting, pattern drafting, fabric marking, pressing, and daily creative work. What stood out most was not only the interest in individual products, but the way Japanese visitors responded to the overall feeling of the Kearing range: refined, modern, precise, and beautiful without being distant from everyday use.
A warm response from Japan’s craft community
Throughout the show, Kearing’s product design received enthusiastic feedback from visitors, retailers, and craft professionals. Many guests paid close attention to details such as material finish, measurement clarity, grip comfort, blade feel, and how each product could improve small but repeated steps in sewing and quilting.
That response matters deeply to Kearing. Since 1995, we have believed that craft tools should do more than meet a basic function. They should make the making process smoother, more confident, and more enjoyable. A good tool is not just used; it becomes part of a maker’s rhythm.

Recognition from Quilt Japan for Kearing’s Heat-Resistant Tools
One especially meaningful moment came when the editor-in-chief of Quilt Japan, one of Japan’s respected quilting publications under Nihon Vogue, expressed strong interest in Kearing’s products. The magazine has arranged complimentary editorial coverage to introduce Kearing’s globally patented Heat-Resistant Ironing Ruler Series and High-Temperature Ironing Disappearing Pen Series to Japanese quilting readers.
For Kearing, this recognition is a strong encouragement. These product lines reflect the same idea behind much of our R&D: identify a real frustration in the creative process, then solve it with better materials, thoughtful design, and reliable performance. The heat-resistant ironing rulers allow makers to press with precision without the common fear of damaging ordinary transparent rulers, while the ironing disappearing pens help creators mark fabric cleanly and remove lines with heat.
Featured Products: Iron Cleaner Stick, Expanding Sewing Gauge, and Atelier Scissors
Three product groups were especially important at the Japan Hobby Show: Iron Cleaner Stick, Expanding Sewing Gauge, and Atelier Sewing Scissors.
Iron Cleaner Stick helps restore the smooth glide of an iron by removing residue and burnt marks from the soleplate. For quilters and sewists who rely on clean pressing, it is a practical solution that visitors immediately understood.

The Expanding Sewing Gauge supports consistent spacing for buttonholes, pleats, patchwork, parallel marks, and other repeated measuring tasks. Its value lies in reducing small errors and saving time where precision is repeated again and again.
Atelier Sewing Scissors, Kearing’s professional-grade quilting scissors, brought a more tactile kind of interest. Visitors were drawn to the balance, blade feel, and the sense that a cutting tool can be both serious and beautiful.
From product display to real conversation
Japan Hobby Show is not only a place to show products. It is a place to understand how makers think, choose, compare, and create. Conversations at the Kearing booth offered valuable insight into Japanese users’ expectations for precision, packaging, material feel, and product longevity.
These conversations will continue to guide Kearing’s work in Japan. We look forward to building deeper relationships with Japanese retailers, distributors, quilt artists, sewing professionals, and hobbyists who share the belief that good tools can make creativity more joyful.

Looking ahead
Kearing’s debut at the 50th Japan Hobby Show marks the beginning of a long-term dialogue with the Japanese craft market. We are grateful to everyone who visited our booth, tested our tools, shared feedback, and encouraged us with such warm interest.
We will continue to develop tools that combine original thinking, reliable performance, and modern design — helping creators turn ideas into finished works, and passion into a lasting way of life.
